What exactly is Travel Basketball?

Travel Basketball differs from Recreational League Basketball in several ways. With a recreational league, games are typically all played in the same locations, against teams of players with widely varying skill levels, who all signed up with that specific league, and the focus is generally on players having fun. Travel basketball teams play in tournaments held in various different locations, against teams from different cities, counties, or states. The teams are usually composed of players who have been invited by coaches to join the program, and the skill level of the players and the competition overall is much higher than what is found in recreational leagues.

Where do you practice?

Practices are held in Hollywood, Florida at Hollywood Christian School: 1708 N State Road 7, Hollywood, Florida 33021. Our 4th and 5th grade teams will practice on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:30PM – 8:00PM. Our 8th, 9th and 10th grade team will practice on Monday and Friday from 6:30PM – 8:00PM.

How far does your travel team travel?

While the majority of the tournaments we will attend are within reasonable driving distance of our practice location, we do travel to locations that would require an overnight stay during the regular season. Regional, State and National tournaments will also require travel with overnight stays.

How often are tournaments held?

Although there are tournaments held nearly every weekend by the USSSA, USBA, YBOA and AAU, each individual SFL Heat Elite team will attend no more than two (2) tournaments scheduled per month.

When does the South Florida Heat Elite travel season begin?

Our Travel year is broken up into two 5 month seasons. Our Fall season will run Sep 2017 – Jan 2018. Our Spring season will run Feb 2018 – Jun 2018. Tournaments are weekend style. This means there are typically three (3) “guaranteed games” scheduled anywhere in between Friday thru Sunday, with potential additional playoff games contingent upon the performance in the guaranteed games.
